UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the American University of Sharjah on Jan. 19 signed a contract with Bee’ah Recycling to work together on the establishment of the country’s first recycling facility for used electric vehicle batteries.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure booth during the 2023 World Future Energy Conference in Abu Dhabi.

According to His Excellency Sharif Salim Al Olama, the undersecretary of energy and petroleum affairs at MOEI, the project is meant to guarantee “future readiness” and get ready for the market for electric vehicles.

AUS Provost and Chief Academic Officer Juan Sanchez said “We are proud to be part of this important collaboration as we continue to contribute actively to the UAE’s strategic sustainability agenda and its national drive to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.”
