BCE event to draw high school students to campus

UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH— On March 2, the American University of Sharjah’s Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences (BCE) will organize an Environmental Day Event (ENVDAY) at the main building for students in grades 8-12.

The session is held in association with the Office of Enrollment Management-Sharakah Program and AUS Sustainability.

The event will feature a panel discussion titled “Climate Impact and Food Security,” with four speakers, including Dr. Mohamed Al Hosani, chief sustainability officer of Bee’ah Group and an AUS alumnus; Donna Glasper, co-founder and COO of grocery delivery service HeroGo; Luca Cobre, executive chef and manager of Healthy Farm Eatery; and Nathalie Curraba, a clinical nutritionist and project coordinator for AUS Sustainability. 

The program will have around 700 high school students and teachers from 30 secondary schools attending, along with 45 teams competing in the Environmental Jeopardy Quiz Competition and 20 teams competing in a Food Security in UAE Schools Video Competition. 

There will be booths at the main building’s rotunda from 10:30-11:30 a.m. of various activities and exhibits displayed. 

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
