SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates – The American University of Sharjah’s Department of Writing Studies department has merged into the Department of English, administrators announced last week.
College of Arts and Sciences Dean Mahmoud Anabtawi announced the merger in a July 8 email, noting that the move is expected to improve interdisciplinary studies, as well as provide faculty members with more opportunities to teach new and different courses.
The dean added the creation of the larger Department of English should help “generate new ideas for collaboration and growth.”
The dean acknowledged efforts by a “merger workgroup” that helped draw up plans to combine the two departments. He also thanked AUS’ higher administration on behalf of the new expanded Department of English for their guidance and support.
