UNIVERSITY CITY – Safety precaution regarding the coronavirus resulted in canceling the “Pianopalooza” concert at the American University of Sharjah, said College of Arts and Sciences Dean Mahmoud Anabtawi in an email on March 1.
The Performing Arts Program initially scheduled the show to take place on March 2-3.
The music faculty have been preparing for the concert’s repertoire since Fall 2019.
According to Anabtawi’s email, ticket holders will receive a full refund for the purchased passes for the performance.
“We do hope this event will be rescheduled at a later date,” wrote Anabtawi.
Chief Operating Officer Dr. Jeannette Vinke wrote in a Feb. 29 email that the country’s Ministry of Education requires the cancellation of all public gatherings and activities until further notice.
She added that the postponement of such events includes “on-campus competitions, festivals, conferences, seminars.”
Vinke wrote that the university would remain in touch with the Ministry of Health to communicate any updates regarding the virus.
