UNIVERSITY CITY – The Economic and Political Impacts of COVID-19 webinar hosted by student organizations at the American University of Sharjah on April 21 had an overwhelming number of attendees, causing the internet platform to deny entry to most of them.

The Student Economics Association and the International Studies Student Association co-hosted the webinar.

SEA President Simra Javed said that the virtual platform only accommodated 100 attendees while 220 of them had registered for it.

The webinar featured AUS faculty from the fields of economics, management, politics, and history.

AUS professors Giacomo Chiozza, Javed Younas, Sara Farhan, and John Katsos lead the discussion.

Farhan elaborated on the topic through a historic lens and compared the current crisis with yellow fever.

Chiozza spoke extensively about international law and the political aspect of the current pandemic during the webinar.

The student organizations are currently making efforts to make the recorded webinar video available online for the AUS community.
