UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH — To meet growing industry demand, the College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah will add a new minor in Safety and Fire Protection Engineering next fall.
The program will be offered in collaboration with the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority
According to an email from CEN Dean Dr. Fadi Aloul the minor will help students enhance safety and fire protection through principles that examine fire behavior, combustion mechanisms and heat transfer.
The program also benefited from input from industrial advisory boards, especially after high-profile fire and safety incidents increased demand for expertise in this field.
The curriculum will include “analysis, design, and operation of buildings, plants, equipment, processes, and people to protect employees, the public and assets.”
The minor will offer access to career paths in manufacturing, consulting, insurance, and healthcare industries in the UAE, GCC and internationally. It will be open to students from all majors.
