UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH — The American University of Sharjah’s Student Council hosted a “Pink October” event on Oct. 28, transforming the Main Plaza into a sea of pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about early detection and provide a space for students and faculty to show solidarity with those affected. Booths across the plaza offered information on breast health, self-examination techniques, and risk prevention. Donation stations were also set up, with proceeds directed toward Dr. Ghaleb Husseini’s breast cancer research program at AUS.
“‘Bound by the Ribbon’ aims to unite the AUS community in supporting the fight against breast cancer through awareness, education, and action,” said Qusai Al Tah, president of the Student Council.
“This event reminds us that awareness isn’t just about wearing pink, it’s about education, empathy, and taking action,” added Al Tah.
Student clubs and organizations added to the atmosphere with interactive activities, games and live performances that encouraged participation and conversation. The evening concluded with a moment of reflection honoring survivors and those lost to the disease.
Through this initiative, AUS continues to promote health advocacy and strengthen community engagement, inspiring students to carry forward the message of early detection and care beyond October.
