UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The department of International Studies at AUS has introduced a new Sociology minor program, scheduled to launch in the Fall 2026 semester.
According to the university, the program is designed to be accessible to students from every academic discipline across the university. The curriculum focuses on providing a comprehensive understanding of the social forces that influence human behavior, relationships, and global institutions.
The 12-credit curriculum consists of a three-credit core requirement and nine elective credits. Students will begin with foundational courses like Introduction to Sociology, which covers culture and social inequality, before choosing from electives such as Environmental Sociology, Urban Sociology, and the Digital Sociology of Self and Power.
Administrators describe it an as interdisciplinary minor which can complement various majors. It would provide business students with insights into organizational behavior and help engineering students understand the social impacts of technology.
Beyond professional skills, the program aims to foster dialogue on diversity and social change in alignment with the university’s mission of social responsibility.
