UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Deliveries on campus of food, clothes, and other items have risen due to an increase in dorm residents in spring 2022 at the American University of Sharjah.
“There are more orders this semester as there are more people on campus,” said Mohammad Ashraf, a Talabat deliveryman. “We try our best to ensure covid protocols by wearing masks all the time. I used to deliver food here last semester too, but now we come more frequently.”
“Usually students order food between 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. This is the time when we get maximum orders,” added Ashraf.
Reem Mugharbel, an AUS student, said she orders a little bit of everything all the time spending about AED 200 dirhams a week.
“I order everything from food to clothes, sometimes even flowers for my friends on special occasions,” added Mugharbel. “This semester I’ve ordered a couple of times a week. It’s mainly food via Talabat and clothes from ASOS and Urban Outfitters.”
Resident assistants in dorms also agree that the amount of delivery orders have increased this semester.
“They typically order groceries as most don’t have a car and the minimart is limited,” said Resident Assistant Dana Maalouf. “Also, [students order] a lot of decorations for their dorms and a ton of clothes, but mostly it’s food and groceries.”
