UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – The American University of Sharjah has implemented protocols to access the College of Arts and Sciences, according to an Aug. 29 email.

CAS Dean Dr. Mahmoud Anabtawi explained that a series of rules have been put in place for  anyone entering classrooms, labs, and offices to ensure everyone’s safety.

He wrote that the university would provide limited access to professors and faculty who need the labs or the classrooms for teaching purposes.

Departments are scheduling limited access for  faculty and staff during working hours, Sunday-Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Face masks are required, temperature checks are mandatory upon entering, and social  distancing and other safety procedures are in place.

While each CAS building’s maximum capacity has been increased to 50 percent of faculty/staff  at any one time for the fall semester, Anabtawi noted that it would be preferred if departments could try to stick to the earlier 30 percent capacity to minimize risk.

To enter the CAS building, people must show a negative PCR test and also upload Al HOSN applications on their phones, wrote Anabtawi.

He stated that there is no age restriction to enter the buildings, but urged those with health complications to work remotely to reduce the risk of getting COVID-19.
