UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Around 20 companies from government and private sectors participated in the Internship Recruitment Day on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23 organized by the College of Arts and Sciences Career Services at the American University of Sharjah.
“We have companies like McDonald’s, Icon, Environment and Protected Areas Authority and Al Guhair Group attending the event. We had interviews on campus and a lot of students were selected for internships,” said Career Services Manager Hiba Khayata.
Khayata added that more than 14 student volunteers helped organize the event by engaging the attendees and taking photos and videos.
Aya Abdul Wahab, a sophomore, said that it was a wonderful opportunity to interact with potential employers who guided students about internships and future job opportunities.
The event started with interaction with representatives from companies, followed by three workshops on digital media, mock interviews and working with individuals with Autism.
Human resource professionals from some of these companies conducted on-campus one-on-interviews with students towards the end of the day.
“Currently we are looking for interns to join and they will be the in charge of their projects, meet international delegates, present themselves and gain experience,” said Fatima Almheiri, marketing executive at Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park.
“We have noticed that students at AUS have higher skill levels and are eager to learn new things. This is why we want to recruit more students from this university,” she added.
