UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – A truck on fire delayed American University of Sharjah students commuting back home through E311 highway on Monday evening.

The accident took place after Exit 37 in which cars and heavy vehicles had to halt as quickly as possible to prevent another accident from occurring.

Rescue and police vehicles arrived on the scene to manage the accident and contain the fire. They closed three lanes of the six-lane road with red cones.

No casualties were reported as the driver came out of the vehicle safely and no ambulances were called to the scene.

Navigation systems showed an approximate delay of 20 minutes but AUS commuter Seifeldin Abbas said otherwise. “I usually take over 45 minutes to reach home from the university but with the accident, I took over an hour and 25 minutes,” said Abbas.

Multiple cranes were called to assist in removing the truck from the road and traffic resumed to its normal rate.
