UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Since its inception, the American University of Sharjah has transformed “from a mere idea into an institution of high regard,” the Ruler of Sharjah told 4,000 people at the university’s Alumni Silver Jubilee Reunion Jan. 28.
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, a Supreme Council Member who served as AUS’s president for its first 25 years, made the remarks during ceremonies including a dinner, a light show, and fireworks in front of the main building.
He recently appointed Her Excellency Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi to succeed him as president of the university.
Alumni attending the 4-11 p.m. festivities were able to acquire limited-edition commemorative silver coins marking the Silver Jubilee, issued in collaboration with the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates.
The event ended with Anas Bukhash, an Emirati entrepreneur, giving a speech titled “What Drives You.”
