UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – American University of Sharjah students learned about the Writing Center and socialized with faculty and peers who work there during an Open Day event March 9.
Dr. Maria Eleftheriou, head of the Writing Centre, said she had begun planning the event in the spring 2020 semester, when a past peer tutor gave her the idea, but it wasn’t possible then due to the pandemic.
She described the center, which continued to function online during the pandemic, as having had a positive effect during those difficult times. She added that she was proud of both the peer tutors and the students who used the center to improve their writing.
Konstantina Spyropoulou, a graduate tutor and one of the longest working peers, said she began working there during her undergraduate year and came back again during her master’s. The place made her feel at home, she said.
She added that she loves helping students with their essays, because it helps her become a better writer herself.
