UNIVERSITY CITY – The American University of Sharjah is hosting their annual Open Mic Night online this year after closing due to covid-19, according to an email from the English Department on April 6.

The event will be held through Instagram and participants are expected to submit their entries online, the department wrote.

Students are given the choice to submit a variety of content including verses, songs and videos limited to 60 seconds, they stated.

For text submissions, students are required to abide by a 100-word limit, the department added.

“In light of our current circumstances, please send us your spoken word on social distancing, online learning, and the unfortunate global pandemic,” they wrote.

The department encouraged students to write about all kinds of experiences including joys, frustrations and anxieties while keeping the content appropriate.

Students must turn in their submissions to @englishfellowsaus through direct message on Instagram, according to the email.

As stated on the event poster, submissions have been open since March 26.
