UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – American University of Sharjah’s Psychology Club agreed Monday to host a virtual panel discussion on the importance of men’s mental health.

In a meeting held online, the organizing team emphasized the importance of having male speakers at the event to encourage others to speak out against the stigma of mental health.

“This should be our biggest event of the semester,” noted club President Filipa Anastasova.

The board members concurred that the event should be held on the first week of May before the onset of final examinations.

Noting that most club events are scheduled for 5 p.m., Executive Assistant Janel Barreto expressed concern regarding the timing of the virtual session given the current holy month of Ramadan. After polling students via its Instagram page, the club decided to start it at 9 p.m.

The meeting also discussed preparations for an upcoming induction ceremony for psychology students who have been chosen to represent AUS at the International Honor Society in Psychology.

The club, founded in 2019, aims to destigmatize mental health within the university campus.
