UNIVERSITY CITY, SHARJAH – Organizers are encouraging United Arab Emirates nationals to participate in the upcoming UAE Genome Program at the American University of Sharjah, and have a sample of their blood taken in order to identify different genetic diseases.

The Emirati Cultural Club is hosting the event, in collaboration with G42 Health Care, at the Student Center Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Aisha Ali, AUS’s community services and outreach manager, said the program’s purpose is to create a healthier Emirati society by turning the findings of genetic analysis into effective medical treatment.

Ali added that “the program has been circulating around all universities in the country and in many government clinics. They want students to take part so they can raise awareness.”
